Fall Reading Week Information
The PHRS science classes have been focused on learning!
Our Biology 1 students have made good progress using USA Test Prep; scores have improved since the beginning of the year. Biology this year has focused more on a local scale, trying to relate subjects to Missouri or the Ozark area as much as possible. We just went over cells and cell structure and are moving into ATP & Energy cycles.
Junior High Science has recently created mock-up Rube Goldberg machines and we plan to pick one to build in class.
Earth Science continues to move forward, and is a senior led class that is focused on graduation. We try to relate Earth Science topics to global and current events.
Physical Science students have conquered the Periodic Table and just finished up acids and bases. They had a couple small labs involving pH testing and practiced using indicator strips. They are heading into simple machines and are excited about the Rube Goldberg machine, planning to outdo the upper-classman.
STEM has been having a great time! First they learned about scale drawing and have since moved from scaling simple objects to objects as large as houses. They have gone though basics of architecture and have developed detailed "tiny house" models complete with basic layouts and floor-plans. We are moving into our final project for the semester which will be a full size corner wall section framed and wired complete with wall outlets and lighting!
